Elcomsoft Phone Breaker: iOS 9.3, Crash Recovery and Viewer Integration
ElcomSoft updates Elcomsoft Phone Breaker, the company's mobile forensic tool for acquiring information from a wide range of smartphones and tablets. Version 5.30 adds support for iOS 9.3 backups and automatically saves progress when running an attack on a password-protected backup, enabling automated crash recovery. Elcomsoft Phone Breaker 5.30 will resume interrupted attacks automatically from the last auto-save position instead of restarting from the beginning. Should one need to continue performing the attack on another PC, one can now transfer the current job to a different computer without losing the progress. In addition, attacks can be modified on the fly without having to re-start from the beginning.
The updated release significantly improves Windows Phone acquisition by speeding up OneNote download. For iCloud attacks, Elcomsoft Phone Breaker can now automatically accept Apple's updated Terms and Conditions, enabling seamless integration and allowing the tool to continue operation where previous versions would fail with a "T&C Changed" error.
Elcomsoft Phone Breaker now uses a new, in-house standalone API to download information from iCloud and iCloud Drive. Since iOS 9, Elcomsoft Phone Breaker required users to install iCloud for Windows in order to be able to download cloud backups or access files via the "Download files from iCloud" feature. This was not the case for older versions of iOS; iOS 8.x backups could be downloaded without iCloud for Windows.
A new set of stand-alone APIs was integrated with the recent update. Practically, this means that iCloud for Windows is no longer needed in order to download cloud backups produced by iOS 9 and newer. The "Download files from iCloud" feature also works directly and without iCloud for Windows. The new API enables Elcomsoft Phone Breaker to be used on computers running Microsoft Windows Server, where iCloud for Windows could not be installed.
The new release is fully compatible with iOS 9.3, which includes accounts with two-step verification. Finally, users can now launch Elcomsoft Phone Viewer and open downloaded backups in just one click. Updating to Elcomsoft Phone Breaker 5.30 is highly recommended to maintain compatibility with the latest iOS release.
